Hunt for the Hidden Treasure

A young boy discovers an ancient map and sets off on a dangerous quest to find the legendary treasure of King Aldric deep beneath the Thornwood Forest.

Marcus was a quiet twelve-year-old who lived with his grandfather in a stone cottage at the edge of the village. He loved old books, long walks, and the stories his grandfather told him about the ancient kings who once ruled the land. His grandfather had taught him the old script, how to read the stars, and how to count his steps when he felt nervous.

The cottage had a dusty attic full of things Marcus had never been allowed to touch. His grandfather kept secrets up there — everyone in the village knew that much. One rainy afternoon, with nothing else to do, Marcus finally climbed the creaky attic stairs and began pulling old books from the shelves.

'Just a quick look,' he whispered to himself. 'He never said I couldn't read them.'

Inside one of them, tucked between the pages like it had been waiting for him, was a hand-drawn map, yellowed with age, marked with a red X somewhere deep in the Thornwood Forest.

Marcus's hands trembled. 'The Thornwood,' he breathed. 'That's where Grandfather's stories always end up. Every single one.' He traced the route with his finger, heart pounding. 'This is real. This isn't just a story — someone drew this. Someone went there.'

He stood in the attic for a long time, rain drumming on the roof, turning the map over in his hands. 'If I don't go now,' he thought, 'I'll spend the rest of my life wondering.'
