Swimming Against the Current
Ten-year-old Kai is terrified of water, but summer camp's big lake trip is just two weeks away. Can he face his deepest fear one splash at a time and learn to swim before it's too late?
Kai was ten years old and good at a lot of things. He was great at soccer, amazing at video games, and once ate six hot dogs at the school picnic without stopping. But there was one thing Kai could not do, would not do, and absolutely refused to even think about doing: swimming.
Every summer, the kids at Pineview Elementary talked about nothing but Lakeshore Camp — the zip lines, the campfires, and most of all, the giant lake where everyone spent their afternoons splashing around. Kai had always made excuses not to go. But this year, his parents had already signed the forms.
