Thursday on Repeat
Nora is living the worst Thursday of her life — pop quiz, assembly disaster, a fight with her best friend — and then she wakes up and it's Thursday again. And again. To break the loop, she'll need a mysterious notebook, a kid who remembers, and one split-second decision at exactly 7:47 p.m.
Nora Vance wakes up at 7:12 a.m. to three sounds, in this order: her clock radio playing an ancient song about walking on sunshine, the smoke alarm chirping because Dad is burning toast again, and the neighbor's beagle, Chompers, barking at the garbage truck like it owes him money.
'Big day, Nor!' Mom calls up the stairs. Mom has said this every morning for a month, but today it's actually true. Tonight, at the Harlow Science Center, Mom's team unveils the thing she's been building for three years: the Horizon Coil, a machine that can catch the energy of a lightning storm and store it in a ring of humming copper. There's a storm rolling in tonight, right on schedule. The whole town is coming to watch.
Nora pulls on her lucky green hoodie and looks at herself in the mirror. 'Okay,' she tells her reflection. 'Mom's night. Don't mess anything up.' Downstairs, the toast smoke drifts. Chompers barks. The radio sings about sunshine. Remember all of this. It's going to matter more than anyone could possibly guess.
